The second edition of About Design, the Design & Interior Fair, will be held in Gdańsk from May 11 to 13, 2012. The highlights of Edition 2 include trends, innovation and luxury commodities.
SPECIAL GUESTS and LECTURES
About Design’s special guests include Massimiliano Pinucci, aircraft designer, interactive design specialist, Olga Nieścier, designer and Program Director of the VIAMODA Polish-Italian School of Design and Management, who will discuss trends in fashion design; Ewa Trzcionka, Editor-in-Chief of DesignAlive.pl, who will give a lecture on Polish Design?; Dawid Korzekwa, President of the STGU Association of Graphic Designers, with a lecture on Trends in Graphic Design; and Joanna Kępińska of the IWP Institute of Industrial Design with a lecture on Service Design – Benefits and Skills. Those of you who are interested in display window arrangement are welcome to attend a lecture and practice session on Visual Merchandising and Space Management run by Joanna Jakubowska of LPP S.A.
EHIBITIONS
The agenda will include the "3P Pomeranian Project Potential" exhibition prepared for the launch of Gdynia Design Centre, an exhibition of Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts student projects titled "Conceived – Designed – Done" and the Gdynia Design Days Gallery.
DOMO+ CINEMA
Here, the visitors will have an opportunity to watch with the most interesting documentaries dedicated to Polish design, plus features on design as such and interior design. The listing will include films produced by DOMO+ TV, such as: Poużywajmy sobie. Historia polskiego wzornictwa (Let’s Indulge. History of Polish Design) and Dizajnerki (Female Designers).
SIDE EVENTS
The About Design side events will include a workshop on The Instruments to Support Enterprise in the Pomerania Region, a set of business and creative workshops run as a part of the Creative Cities Project (organised by the Gdańsk Entrepreneurs’ Foundation) and a series of lectures by designers under The Academy of Good Interior Design (organised by the Publikator Publishing House).
The fashion and graphic design workshop, organised by LPP S.A. in partnership with the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts, will culminate in a fashion show based on the 12 best designs delivered by the Academy’s students. Next to the student fashion shows, three individual collections will also be presented by LPP S.A.’s experienced designer teams: Aleksandra Wawak and Karolina Czajkowska; NICK NACK Agnieszka Nowak and Laura Laniec; and Bolesław Zajączkowski.
About Design will also feature the work of Polish design centres. In a special segment, Gdynia Design Centre and Design Centre Kielce will be presented by their representatives, who will describe their action plans and the challenges which they face – especially in their regional context. The presentations will be wrapped up with a discussion panel on the role of design and innovation in the regions. The discussion will be attended both by the representatives of the Centres and by the event’s visitors.
